I’m Charlie Pynnonen, and I am a senior studying Mechanical Engineering at MSU.
I love to create new things and solve problems in unique ways, and engineering has always offered me incredible opportunities to do both. However, this trip will be the first time I’ve been able to learn and work with engineering outside of the country, and I could not be more excited.
Although I am studying Mechanical Engineering, I was drawn to this Biosystems Engineering study abroad because it offers a chance to study sustainability and ecology. I care about our environment and the influence that humans have on it. Ultimately, I want to find a career that involves improving our relationship with the planet and reducing or eliminating the negative ways that we impact it. I look forward to learning about these topics and exploring a different side of engineering.
Outside of the classroom I love to play music and take pictures. I have been playing music for about eight years, and have played with different bands all around my hometown of Ada, Michigan. I’ve even performed at the Loft in Lansing! While I won’t be able to bring any instruments to Costa Rica, I’m sure it will offer plenty of exciting subjects to photograph.
