Our official trip started off with an exciting day in San Jose and Alajuela. See Dan’s blog for details. We visited local food suppliers, a grocery store and farmers market, in the morning, followed by an afternoon of learning about Costa Rican culture. We were fortunate to see an art exhibit by 29 artists at the Museo Nacional that focused on waste from Columbian to modern times.
We attended a traditional Costa Rican bull fight, which shares similarities with American rodeos. Being the only gringos, we were invited to be VIPs, including being interviewed by the announcer.
Monday, we visited Fabio and started brainstorming solutions to the problems presented in the team projects. We then transferred to Tilaran, where the students explored and worked on assignments for the evening.
Tuesday started early, with trips to ICE facilities to learn about hydropower and wind energy. Alex will be posting details shortly! We’re guests tonight at the house of an ICE employee, where we will have a traditional Costa Rican barbeque.
